three faces of the moon

moon over basel

sketch me a round moon
above grey sheen of city lights
draw long bridge over river
the night is a symphony
silvered blue, when you're with me

ivory & ink
shading the canvas star-strewn:
spirals, patterns, glass
the night is a mosaic
flaring between our bones

moon shading our eyes
river moulting its skin
wind slithering softly-
the sky night thrums, speaking
a language of its own

  1. These are lovely, Grace. I especially like the first - 'the night is a symphony silvered blue' which really seems to breathe life into Claudia's sketch. And I like the idea, in the last, of the sky speaking its own language. And nice that a poet can share its language in poetry.

(I almost chose this sketch...as I REALLY like it...but then decided on another approach. Smiles.)

  11. Beautiful and Serene, Grace - it was a point where both poetry and the sketch join hands - also for me it reminded me of our duet poetry....sounded like the same voice, which I heard after a long time...

  12. The Three Tankas; one for all, all for one; I get in line to applaud the lines /the night is a mosaic/flaring between our bones/. Also like the /river moulting its skin/ What a terrific response to the prompt.

  14. I'm a nightowl, so the sky night speaking a language of its own, I def agree... a lot of stellar lines: the night is a symphony, river moulting its skin, above grey sheen of city lights - if that painting could talk, this poem would be its 1st words... smiles

  31. mmm...it is easy to get lost in the evening moons you describe. ..."the night is a symphony"..."the night is a mosaic"..."the sky night thrums, speaking / a language of its own"...yes...quite easy to get lost in.

  32. This is so soothing Grace. I love the night sky, the moon. Being near a beautiful bridge by a river, well that would be heavenly. You write of it with such grace. That must be why that's your name. Take care. (I've been away. So glad I'm back to read something so lovely.)

  33. Great choice of Claudia's sketches....and you have superbly described the feeling of the setting... romantic and exciting. If I were to select my favorite lines it would read like this:

The night is a symphony silvered blue
Ivory and ink sketching of the moon
long bridge over river on canvas strewn
The city thrums a language of its own
when you are with me all flares in my bones

  34. Beautiful love poem evoking the romantic mood of the painting.

  35. What an evocative piece. The tanka was a good choice here. I swooned over
    the night is a mosaic
    flaring between our bones
